Chapter 41, An Auror's Lot Is Not A Happy One, is up at FictionAlley (boy, they're getting quick these days). In which Rhiannon is canonised, Cassius is sad, and Clark is unhelpful. And I make yet another gratuitous reference to Gilbert and Sullivan in the title.

And talking about gratuitous references, here's a quote from Miss Emma Watson's recent speech at the Oxford Union which explains a lot:

Before filming, she met JK Rowling and wanted to be Rowling's Hermione and no other version. But she does nothing to 'get into character...[because] I'm actually really similar,' and so it's all 'really easy. Really, I'm quite lucky.'

It should be Steve Kloves and David Heymann and whoever the director du jour is who tell her, but obviously they've been napping at their posts.

I suppose Steve Kloves encouraged that characterisation by giving her all the extra lines (even when they don't quite make sense). Still, to be fair, as she gets older she probably will be more like the personality of Hermione in the later books.

Emma, dear, JKR's Hermione would be actively researching a cure for Rapid and Uncontrollable Eyebrow Wigglyosis rather than suffering from a chronic form.

And she prefers blue for her Yule Ball dress, but I blame that on the costumer.

I can't believe she admitted that she doesn't bother getting into character! What rubbish. Even if you're a lot like the character – which she really isn't – you're still not going to be in the exact same mood the character is, so you have to prepare yourself and you have to get into character.

She wasn't bad in the first film, to be fair, and can't really be blamed for Steve Kloves giving her all Ron's lines, but Star!Emma is rather different from Insecure!Hermione.
