So ... for the latest round of the Tonks story at CoS, I just finished a scene in which Tonks finally gets to meet some characters who had previously only been talked about by other people. Three and a half thousand words of it. Six and a half pages of A4.

Set in a bloody beauty parlour.

Right.

Like my knowledge of such things extends beyond watching Cutting It. It seemed like a good idea at the time ...

I'm really setting myself up for a fall here, aren't I? :)

I should think so, yes - I'm not really that worried, it's just that it's rather ironic. It was more the character interaction I was thinking of anyway, but any oddities there I can put down to the nature of the individuals concerned, none of whom have appeared onstage before for comparison. (Well, apart from our heroine, of course.)

And come to think of it, all of my 'knowledge' of police work comes from detective stories, but that's never bothered me yet for exactly the same reason. Sometimes the Potterverse background comes in really handy ...
