Meme, rec, and miscellaneous stuff
Feb. 28th, 2008 11:49 pmWow, that was a specific post title, wasn't it?
OK, the meme first, via
golden_d: it's the Oscars Best Picture Meme, which I didn't mind doing because it was quick! Basically, a list of all the films that have won said Oscar; bold the ones you've seen; italicize the ones partially seen.

*sigh* I am so not a great film buff. I'm surprised there were that many, actually -- 22 out of about 80, mostly older ones that have appeared enough times on TV for me to catch them at some point.
A couple of other memes I've been tagged for -- er, will get around to it at some point? (Possibly in the way that Harry will get around to reading Hogwarts, a History.)
Thanks to everyone who suggested poetry that I could use for my quiz. Would it be wrong of me to go "muahahahaha!" at this point? Maybe.
Leave talent spotting to the suits, says EMI boss. Yeah, that'll work.
Happy birthday for yesterday to
maya_a - if she sees this, anyway. (She doesn't seem to post a lot :D).
I actually have a vague plotbunny for a Zacharias Smith/adult!Gabrielle Delacour fic. (Yes, that was a random draw from a challenge. The other two were Remus/Cho and Ted Tonks/Lily Potter Jnr.) If written, it will be called something like Paradise by the Wand Light. If you consider that title together with Zach's role in HBP, I think you may see where I would be going with this ...
Finally saw Torchwood 2x08 A Day in the Death tonight -- will do a proper review later, but for now, a summary: "Again, WTF? What happened there?"
Ah yes, that rec. Who could resist taking a look at a fic with the summary: "Elizabeth Tudor, Queen of England ... and headmistress of Hogwarts? Three one shots. Complete." Well, certainly nor me. It's called A Headmistress's Tale and it's excellent -- an example of blending HP concepts and real history that IMHO genuinely works.
Lyrics: And finally, this. The last one was Nickelback's Rockstar, recorded as far back as 2005. Blimey. Gets played a lot at the moment due to being near the top of the charts -- in fact the damn thing's been playing in my head most of the day ...
sporkyadrasteia,
msmoocow, and
sparkly_stuff all knew it.
This time, something older. A lot older, in fact, and only a short extract, but I bet you know it:
In a cavern, in a canyon,
Excavating for a mine
Dwelt a miner, forty niner,
And his daughter ... (1880s)

Date: 2008-02-29 11:29 am (UTC)I'd recommend Rebecca and Amadeus on the film list. Two films I absolutely adore. And No Country for Old Men was harrowing but very good.
