snorkackcatcher: (Happy Birthday)
[personal profile] snorkackcatcher
First, a selection of birthday wishes. (I'm trying not to make so many posts that are solely these and lyrics, honest.)

For today, the 5th -- [livejournal.com profile] shiiki

For tomorrow, the 6th -- [livejournal.com profile] sparkly_stuff and [livejournal.com profile] masterofmystery

For the 8th -- [livejournal.com profile] cassieverte (and Cassie, we on the DF list haven't heard from you in ages -- if you see this, get in touch just to let us know how things are going, eh?)

Secondly, a bit of Whofic you might like -- Never Trust A Zorlaxx by Gary Merchant. This one has Four and Sarah Jane, and is a crossover with Minder, of all things; even more surprisingly the presence of Arthur Daley and Terry McCann actually works!

Thirdly, someone's setting up a fic exchange for ASOIAF in a comm called [livejournal.com profile] asoiaf_equinox - not sure how well that will fly, mind you, but it's an interesting idea. ([livejournal.com profile] grrm's dislike of fanfic seems to have rubbed off on that fandom. And I suppose the wide scope of Westeros etc could be a bit daunting.)

While I'm here, FYI the final playlist of anti-Valentine songs, which is a mixture of my original possibles, suggestions made, and some others I found when looking through what I had:
You Oughta Know -- Alanis Morissette
Say Hello Wave Goodbye -- Soft Cell
These Boots Were Made For Walkin' -- Nancy Sinatra
'97 Bonnie & Clyde -- Eminem
Don't Come The Cowboy With Me Sonny Jim -- Kirsty MacColl
Everyday I Love You Less And Less -- Kaiser Chiefs
I Am, I Feel -- Alisha's Attic
Creep -- Radiohead
Young Hearts Run Free -- Candi Staton
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes -- The Platters
Your Squaw Is On The Warpath -- Loretta Lynn
Where The Wild Roses Grow -- Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue
Links are to lyrics, if you're not familiar with the songs. The last one is to be played all the way through as per my arbitrary tradition. Should get people singing I'll Never Fall In Love Again, eh? I think Kirsty is the most positive out of that lot, but for her voice I'll make an exception ... Sadly, I had to drop some suggestions I didn't think people would know -- and also Run For Your Life and another possible of Hendrix's Hey Joe, because I didn't want too many songs about murderous boyfriends/husbands. :)

Lyrics: The last one was Yakety Yak from 1958 -- the band in question were the Coasters. I remember picking up an old vinyl copy of that, but it seems to have got lost along the way ... I'll have to reacquire it sometime. [livejournal.com profile] golden_d, [livejournal.com profile] lupinslittlesis, and [livejournal.com profile] jesspallas got it.

This one just failed to make the cut for the above selection for being far too romantic. :)

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner ...
(1970s)

That'd be Carly Simon's "You're So Vain!" YAY, I got one! Ten galleons says [livejournal.com profile] ladybracknell gets it, too. ;-)

I love your anti-V-Day list. Half of those songs are on my playlist. ;) Especially 'Where the Wild Roses Grow', which is so very creepy. I know I've got other crazy Love Is Hell songs, but none of them are coming to mind at the moment.

You're sooooo vain!

(I didn't mean you but that song, obviously!)

I heard Carly Simon's voice in my head after the third word of the first line - this was the easiest one yet!

I knew I was going to like my first York pantomime when the Principal Boy walked on to a blast of "You're So Vain".
