snorkackcatcher: (Happy Birthday)

... the lovely Maggie, aka [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole! :D

Lyrics: The last one was the Kenny Rogers classic The Gambler from 1978, spotted by [livejournal.com profile] the_jackalope, [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole, [livejournal.com profile] lucie_p, [livejournal.com profile] ozma_katiebell, and [livejournal.com profile] lupinslittlesis.

So, while looking for something a bit more up to date, I came across this one which I'd meant to use before:

Tell me did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way, to see the lights all faded?
And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking at yourself out there?
(2000s)

Well, all right, not totally up to date, but this millennium at least. :)

Drops of Jupiter, by (I think) Train. That was something like my freshman or sophomore year of high school; I remember it well. :)

Oh, this song! I love this song...and used it in a short story. Train - 'Drops of Jupiter'

An extremely angsty short story I wrote in my second year of undergrad called 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'. It had a lot of songs in it, now that I remember...(not surprising, given the title, I suppose). There are bits of it I really like, but on the whole it is very much of the angst.

Well...to be fair, I think part of the angst came from the narrative choice of very deep first-person. Half of the story is things that only exist in the narrator's head. I wrote it for a creative writing class and people either really liked it or hated it.
