snorkackcatcher: (Happy Birthday)

[livejournal.com profile] virginia_bell,

and I hope everything goes great at college!

Lyrics: The last couple of songs were Patrick Wolf's Teignmouth from 2005, spotted by [livejournal.com profile] virginia_bell herself, and Big Country's In A Big Country from 1983, spotted by [livejournal.com profile] tree_and_leaf. I know the train journey 'from the city to the sea' in the lyrics of the former well -- the main line between London and the Westcountry runs along the coast between Dawlish and Teignmouth, from where it goes alongside the Teign estuary. It's a particularly attractive stretch, especially when the tide's in -- from the elevated POV of someone in the carriage on the seaward side, the water appears to come almost up to the rails, almost as if the train were running on a narrow strip of line amid the water.

Ahem. Anyway, here's some more nostalgia for a song of my own uni days:

Tonight I'm wound tighter than a watchspring
Tonight you owe my patience quite a debt
Tonight we're not gonna solve anything
I might say something that we both regret
And now the pressure's on, the heat is rising
The time has come to stop apologising
'Cos when the skies are clear
The threat of rain is always here with you
(1990s)

Thank you for the birthday wishes! ♥ Things at college are actually going quite well at the moment, so I couldn't have asked for more.
