Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] mrstater and [livejournal.com profile] ladybracknell -- answers to twenty questions concerning predictions for DH, subject of course to my claiming the right to take a mulligan about any of them up until the date of publication. :)

1. Are you going to look at every possible spoiler you can before the book comes out? Did you with HBP and how accurate were the ones you saw?

No way. I'm more likely to drop off the face of the net for a month or so before it comes out. The only spoiler I saw for HBP was Dumbledore's death (I couldn't miss it, some twat leaked it to The Sun and they splashed it all over the front page, following which some other twat put it in the title of a thread at FA which is where I saw it). I really don't like spoilers.

2. What will you do if Amazon (or whoever;) don't deliver your copy on time, and everyone is reading it except you?

Hide until I get it, not look at anything that could give the plot away etc. Although I plan to get it from WH Smiths at a midnight opening, and judging from last time everybody will be stocking up on copies, even places like Sainsbury's, so I don't anticipate this happening.

3. Will you read the last chapter before anything else? Are you planning to read the book all in one go or are you a slow reader?

No way -- I don't like spoilers, remember? Last time I went home and read straight through, but that probably wasn't a good idea because I was slowing down by the end due to tiredness. So this time my plan is (1) get book at midnight, (2) get some sleep, (3) read book through starting from the morning.

4. What's your theory on the meaning of "Deathly Hallows?"

Simply the places where the Horcruxes are kept. There's no reason the title has to be hard to guess -- HBP was, but OotP wasn't.

5. What's the craziest Harry Potter theory you've got, which you could only share with your trusted f-list?

That the "either must die at the hand of the other" bit in the prophecy is to be taken literally, and Harry will have to kill Voldemort by shoving him through the Veil rather than using any kind of spell.

6. If you could write in a sub-plot of your own choosing to the main Harry one, what would it be?

Um -- one that isn't likely to be touched on in the book itself? How about the members of the DA taking matters into their own hands and coming up with a Cunning Plan to help out in the war? (Why yes, I have been vaguely considering such a story. Why do you ask?)

7. Who do you think will die in the book, and who would you be most upset to see die, even if you don't think it's likely?

My personal Don't-Kill-Them-Jo list comprises the Trio, Remus, and Tonks, because if any of those got the chop it would be a real bummer, with Ginny added because if she got the chop it would be a bummer for all the Trio.

As for who's likely to die in the book, well, my guess would be:

Voldemort (duh)
Bellatrix, Greyback, Pettigrew, several other DEs
Several minor Order members, students, teachers, and Ministry types
At least one major "white hat" character -- sadly, Luna, Tonks, and Charlie all look at risk
Assorted random minor characters
Possibly Vernon and/or Petunia

8. Name three main (ish) characters who you think will definitely live and why. Is there a very minor character(s) you really want to have a happy ending?

The Trio, duh. :) Among very minor characters, I suppose Parvati, purely because I have an inexplicable soft spot for her!

9. If you don't like the book, or are bitterly disappointed by it, do you think you'll still stay in the fandom?

I'm not sure I'll stay in the fandom more than a few months even if I love the book, after the initial round of discussions. It depends on what's going on -- if everything seems to be petering out, I'll doubtless quietly fold my tent and depart, apart from occasionally dropping in to see what's happening.

10. One word (or concise) answers only!

- Snape: good, evil, own agenda? Good. Ish.
- Bill: will he help Remus or just be on permanent honeymoon?
Why on earth would he be helping Remus? What with? I'd imagine he'll be helping Harry.
- Peter: a Gryffindor moment or not?
A kinda-sorta Gryffindor moment, yes.
- Harry: is he a Horcrux?
No.
- The Weasleys: will they all survive? Probably not.
- If no to the above: who won't? Charlie, he's the most expendable. Possibly Percy.
- Did Snape love Lily: yay or nay!
Yay. I'm sticking with this theory. :)
- Hogwarts: will they go back to school or not?
Does that mean reopen? Then yes. The Trio almost certainly go back there physically eventually, probably at least nominally as students.
- Remus and Tonks: will they get married in the book? If they survive, yes, although maybe not until the epilogue.
- Bellatrix: who will be her nemesis? One of her own side. I rather like the idea of Narcissa, or maybe Voldy if Harry's "he's a half-blood too" sinks in.
- The new leader of the OotP is ...?
McGonagall seemed to be stepping up to the plate at the end of HBP. If she's too busy, then I suppose Remus by default
- Percy: will he see the error of his ways or not?
Will probably be more or less forced to, although he may not acknowledge it very readily.

11. If Harry could take just one adult Order of the Phoenix member with him on the search for Horcruxes, who should it be and why?

Bill, because a curse-breaker is exactly what he needs at this point. I've been thinking that it's about time that came into play.

12. Will Remus and Greyback have a confrontation in human or werewolf form? Will Tonks be involved? Who will the other werewolves support?

I'm not entirely sure that Greyback escaped, but assuming he did, they'll probably have a largely off-screen fight, as humans, possibly with Tonks helping. I'm not sure the other werewolves will have much of a role even if there is a full-scale Final Battle (and there might well not be), as they're mostly useless in a fight if they're not transformed and hard to control if they are. I'd imagine most of them would side with Greyback.

13. Who is the person from Harry's class (and it isn't him, Ron or Hermione), who will become a Hogwart's teacher? What subject will they teach?

Probably Neville teaching Herbology, because it wouldn't make much of an impact if it was just some random student teaching some random subject (Terry Boot teaching Arithmancy, say). Although something like Dean teaching Muggle Studies would be fun.

14. Do you think Harry will observe Remus looking less lined and walking with a little more of a spring in his step? If so, do you think he'll attribute it to Tonks, and if he does, will he blush?

Yes, yes, and yes. :)

15. Will Ginny use, "But Professor Lupin saw the futility of being a noble prat!" for one of her million arguments with Harry about why they should be together? Do you think they'll get back together at all?

I'm not sure she'll marshal a zillion arguments -- just an occasional small reminder, because she does seem to understand that he has to go off and do this. The analogy does seem to be begging for someone to make it though -- Hermione, Remus, or Tonks seem likely candidates, although actually I suspect Harry himself will think it over and draw this conclusion, after some dramatic events have taken place that pretty much make a flashing neon sign of it.

16. Which house do you think Tonks is in, and why? Is she going to morph into someone important and who will it be?

I'm leaning towards Hufflepuff on that one (because she says "Head of House" rather than "McGonagall" or "Snape", and hard work and loyalty being two characteristics she's definitely shown), although I won't be at all surprised if she turns out to be a default Gryffindor.

As for the morphing into someone important, I'd say yes, because otherwise there's not much plot point in her being a Metamorphmagus, is there? The one I hope isn't necessary is her sacrificing herself by morphing into Harry to let him get away. Otherwise, a short-term morph for espionage purposes sounds good -- Bella or Narcissa, or (one I really like the idea of) Rufus Scrimgeour, assuming she can at least fake the outward appearance of a man.

17. Who will be revealed to be the heir of Gryffindor?

I'm not even sure this will be that important, except possibly it's needed to unlock some special protection or whatever? If so, it's hard to see it being anyone but Harry, really.

Incidentally, it seems likely that Zacharias is the Heir of Hufflepuff or the nearest thing to it, so if this does turn out to be important, it's more interesting to speculate who the Heir of Ravenclaw would be. I rather like the idea of it being Luna, as it would give her some direct plot role to go with her reasonable prominence is the last two books, and I just like her as a character anyway! Although it would be a lot of fun if it turned out to be Cho, and therefore Harry had to talk to her. :)

18. As JKR has promised the final chapter will be like an epilogue; how do you think the final paragraph (hopefully) donated to Remus' future, and/or Tonks', and/or anyone else you want to write a paragraph on, will read?

I doubt there'll be much more than a paragraph or two on Remus and Tonks. For them and for the other main characters, I hope we get an indication of them getting together and doing well in whatever career they have (but without so much detail that exploratory fanfic becomes too awkward :D).

19. Which question from the books would it annoy you most not to have answered?

Hmm ... how about: What was going on with Dumbledore in the cave with that potion?

20. What do you think the last line of the book is?

"Harry was glad that there were people who cared about him for more than just his scar."

That the "either must die at the hand of the other" bit in the prophecy is to be taken literally, and Harry will have to kill Voldemort by shoving him through the Veil rather than using any kind of spell.

Maybe it's because it's two o'clock in the morning, but I don't think that's a crazy theory at all - I really like the idea of Voldemort having gone to huge magical lengths to protect himself, and then Harry just giving him a good old Muggle shove through the Veil....

it's more interesting to speculate who the Heir of Ravenclaw would be. I rather like the idea of it being Luna, as it would give her some direct plot role to go with her reasonable prominence is the last two books, and I just like her as a character anyway!

I'm wondering about this too - especially (as I was discussing earlier with [livejournal.com profile] kerrymdb) if it's Ravenclaw's wand we're after as a horcrux, and that that turns out to be the one on display in Olivander's shop, what with Luna and him being described as having the same eyes and him being missing, and everything....

You know, I filled this out, too, yesterday, and I think it's funny that some of your answers are so much like mine...
for example, I also think Bella will be fought by someone from the "dark side", and a few more.
Anyway, enjoyed reading your answers!

I do like reading people's answers to these. I like the idea of a DA Cunning Plan very much!

What was going on with Dumbledore in the cave with that potion?
Yes, what the hell? But I suspect it'll remain as "general wierdness for effect" and we'll never know.

Hope you don't mind me dropping in for a read...

It depends on what's going on -- if everything seems to be petering out, I'll doubtless quietly fold my tent and depart, apart from occasionally dropping in to see what's happening.

You're the first person I've seen to actually say this - as someone who only became aware of the fandom after HBP came out, I'm intrigued as to how long things will keep going afterwards.

it's more interesting to speculate who the Heir of Ravenclaw would be. I rather like the idea of it being Luna, as it would give her some direct plot role to go with her reasonable prominence is the last two books, and I just like her as a character anyway!

If I can't have Luna as the future Divination teacher, I'll happily settle for this.

And presuming you didn't mind me dropping by, is it all right if I friend you?

Q. 16

Well, I have already said that I see Tonks as a Slytherin. "It usually goes on families" Sluggy said, and we need some decent Slyths. Precisely, I see the lack of mentioning the name of her head of house, when she was inmersed into a bunch of Gryffs (some of them very outspoken against - remember the twins claiming for the expulsion of the whole house in CoS)something in favour of my theory.

And certainly, it would be a memorable moment when Harry and co. discovers ;)

(But, apart from that, I think that in adult life the house you were at school shouldn't be so important)

Sorg.
