... which is, I think, Russian for Second Thoughts (the nearest online translation I could find was "antedate", which sounds plausible enough allowing for differences in idiom).

In other words, someone called Danita has kindly translated said fic of mine to produce a Russian version. Apparently it's received some positive reviews -- although as I'm not even that familiar with the Cyrillic alphabet, let alone the language as a whole, I'm afraid that I can't read a word of the thread in question. :( Still, it was very flattering to be asked!

Lyrics: The last one was the blues/rock classic Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood and the Destroyers from 1981, identified by [livejournal.com profile] modestyrabnott. So in an attempt to find another vaguely post-relevant song (and since I can't think of many songs about magical hats), how about this one:

I'm in serious shit, I feel totally lost
If I'm asking for help it's only because
Being with you has opened my eyes
Could I ever believe such a perfect surprise?

I keep asking myself, wondering how
I keep closing my eyes but I can't block you out
Wanna fly to a place where it's just you and me
Nobody else so we can be free
(2000s)

*blinks at the Russian* different alphabets really throw me.

And that song is 'All The Things She Said' by the really rather brilliantly tacky t.A.T.u., bless their little cotton socks.

My apologies for a "strange" poster... I was reading a fic on [livejournal.com profile] inell's LJ, and went exploring some of her other fics. Wound up getting the "Friend of Friend" page...

But anyways, just wanted to share that unless Danita is trying to use something out of your fic, then her title is wrong. Officially, "Second Thoughts" translates as "Долгие размышления" (Long Reflections - dolgeeye raszmeshleneya). Amazing what doesn't translate properly from English to another language. I know if you do the word for word of "Second Thoughts", it's something entirely different.

But, if you're curious, here's a couple of phrases that you might be interested in from a review standpoint:
Большое спасибо - Thank You Very Much (Big Thank You)- bolshoiy spaceeba
хороший - Very Good (the first 6 letters are "static", the last is conjugation) - horoshee
фик - Fic - feek
Перевод хороший - Very good translation - perevod horoshee

That's about all I remember from my high school days. I can still read it... translating's a different story.

Anyway, sorry to "post and run" like this.

~rj

That is really awesome! Are you going to get any of the feedback and will it be translated for you?

I’m having the same problem. I was just sent a link to where Hostile Takeover has been translated into Russian (literally, according to babblefish, as “Capture of the Enemy”) and I haven’t got a clue of how to get to the comments, never mind read them.

Congratulations! It is a great fic and definitely deserved translation.
I cannot judge the translation itself, I don`t remember that much of Russian and I have better understanding of spoken Russian, because reading cyrillic is difficult for me, I don`t have enough practice... But Russian is easier to understand when one is Slovak.

My very rough translations of comments
Lecter jr:
"Respect for the pick of the fic and your translation! Many thanks, it was a delight to read!
And yes, the ending rules!"
(It seems that he is using anglicisms in Russian - he actually began that sentence with "Respect!" and the verb in the last sentence is "rulit". Interesting.)

ginger: "good fic and remarkable (?) translation"

Malice Crash: "Trash - the ending was wrong" Eh?

assidi:"unexpected ending - I liked it most of all. The fic itself seemed a little tight (затянутым??? I don`t know), but that`s not translator`s fault. Good translation."

Isn't that marvellous! I liked the way Danita popped up to tell you about it when you were feeling a bit low, as well. Being translated into Russian doesn't happen to just anyone, now does it?!

Am cross for not getting t.A.T.u :-)
