Sugar Quill stories
Sep. 17th, 2006 01:23 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
After much procrastination on my part -- and with the help of someone who betas at both Checkmated and the Sugar Quill -- I finally submitted a couple of stories to the latter, and they've now been posted (Dangerous Driving, the Ernie Prang story, and Sleeping With The Enemy, Hermione-Ron-Lavender triangulation). Yay. :)
Incidentally, does anyone who posts at the Quill know if it's possible to be notified of reviews, or to reply to them other than by adding another review? I couldn't even find a link to a 'user control panel' type page for setting preferences, if there is one!
Lyrics: Last time the song was of course the Pulp classic Common People from 1995. (ETA I should have listed
parthenia14,
tree_and_leaf,
lazy_neutrino,
dreamer_marie, and
meddow as the spotters.) If you were wondering where the HP and Star Trek bits came in, the Pulp songwriter/frontman was Jarvis Cocker, who did the music for the GoF film and played the Weird Sister singer. And William Shatner did a version of Common People in 2004 -- with Joe Jackson on backing vocals! -- which is wonderful in its sheer insanity. :D
I heard a snatch of this oldie yesterday on somebody's car radio, and it reminded me that the second verse must surely be worth some sort of prize for Strange And Slightly Disturbing Lyrics:
I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you over myself
I asked the doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well (1980s)

Date: 2006-09-19 06:14 pm (UTC)...so I'll see your Will Young and raise you a Brian May.
A Brian May to whom I was introduced at a party by a mutual friend, and who said 'Hello, Natasha.'
I don't care if I never meet another celebrity ever. That'll do me!

Date: 2006-09-17 02:52 pm (UTC)I would have known Common People! How come I missed that one? *whines*
Nope. Obsessively hitting the refresh button is the order of the day.
You can PM people by going to the 'My Controls' link in the forums. Sometimes people add responses at the bottom of new posted chapters, but I prefer the PM route.

Date: 2006-09-17 07:09 pm (UTC)At least that clears up the Quill thing. Pity there isn't an easier way of doing it.

Date: 2006-09-17 03:46 pm (UTC)I really liked your writing style (I haven't quite got round to reading much of your fic). I had a couple of thoughts about the ending which I can keep to myself or share at some point. ;)

Date: 2006-09-17 07:13 pm (UTC)Feel free to comment on the ending -- the whole story was one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time, but when actually written down make you wonder whether it works (as a serious story rather than crack).
