The Seventh Horcrux by Melindaleo2000. A post-HBP Year 7 tale with plenty of good action and lots of things which might very well be in the real Book 7.

And talking about Book 7 -- JKR has updated her web site with (among other things) a question she should have been asked but never has been: 'Why did Dumbledore have James' invisibility cloak at the time of James' death, given that Dumbledore could make himself invisible without a cloak?' And thrown the cat among the pixies (I suspect) with the note that 'there IS a significant -- even crucial -- answer'.

Heh. I've said it before (or if I haven't, I've thought it) -- the woman's a tease. :D And very good at throwing out something like this for us all to obsess about while not hinting at the absolutely key points. Mind you, I've no idea why it would be crucial (although I've seen the question asked on forums), but doubtless at least a dozen theories will appear shortly!

Oh yeah, the other eyebrow-raising thing she said: 'The heightened security restrictions on the airlines in August made the journey back from New York interesting, as I refused to be parted from the manuscript of book seven (a large part of it is handwritten, and there was no copy of anything I had done while in the US). They let me take it on, thankfully, bound up in elastic bands. I don't know what I would have done if they hadn't; sailed home, probably.' Handwritten? Oy. That has got to be one valuable piece of property to be carrying around, and definitely not the sort of thing you would want to be confiscated by a security guard ...

Lyrics: Last time it was the Neil Young classic After the Goldrush from 1970 (also covered by a group called Prelude who did an acapella version), spotted by [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain and [livejournal.com profile] dollabellae. This time, one that will probably be extremely easy for Brits and leave the non-Brits scratching their heads (unless possibly they're truly obsessive HP or Star Trek fans :D):

She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College
That's where I ... Caught her eye

All together now:

I want to live like common people
I want to do whatever common people do,
I want to sleep with common people
I want to sleep with common people like you.
Well, what else could I do - I said I'll see what I can do...

Got that one. Saw them live in Doncaster Dome about ten years ago, too; probably the Hardcore tour? Very good.

Shame you missed them. In fact I also saw them at Glastonbury - can't remember the year but maybe 1998 or 2000? Glastonbury's a great place for clocking up a large number of bands very quickly, including a few big names I'll never see anywhere else, like Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and (I think) Johnny Cash.

Well, it's obvious: Dumbledore is really Ron from the future. He knows that the Invisibility Cloak is important to be able to raid the Hogwarts kitchens, and that's why he asked James to give it to him. Duh!
(I think the song is by a band named Pulp. Not sure, though)

I'm surprised JKR doesn't have her own private plane & pilot!

How did I not know Shatner covered Common People? I just had to google it and it is quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. I've been missing out.
