UK smoking ban

MPs vote to ban smoking in pubs and clubs.

To judge from the quotes in the article, smokers are not happy about this. However, I am, since I'm fed up to the back teeth of stale smoke and ash triggering off my perennial rhinitis. (That's like hay fever, except that you can get it at any time of year. Bad bouts tend to mean a day where I'm either sneezing violently -- sounds-like-gunfire-violently, leaves-you-knackered-violently -- or about to do so. Maybe I should wear a badge: "I won't complain when you blow smoke over me, if you don't complain when I blow snot over you".)

And of course the damn stuff then gets on your clothes and hair and bloody handkerchief so it still hits you when you get home ...

So to all FORESTers, sorry, but I'm afraid my gut reaction is not "Oh gosh, what a shame your rights are being infringed". It's more

YES! HAHAHAHAHA UP YOURS YOU SELFISH BASTARDS!!!!!

You get that, too? I rarely go out to pubs unless I know them well these days - an evening of sneezing, followed by disrupted sleep and then holding 30 kids in check while feelig shite is not my idea of a good time. Plus the fun of putting on fresh clothes to go out and then washing them all again, as well as myself. Oh, the joy. So I'm with you on this one, 100%.

It varies -- it doesn't always affect me, but once it starts, it tends to keep getting worse as my nose gets more sensitised. The ash seems to be worse than the actual smoke. It's no fun trying to read out a pub quiz when your voice is weak and your nose is twitching either ... You have my sympathy, sister. :)

I am glad I live in Canada... we have had that ban (at least in BC, where I live) for quite some time. I hate smokers too, it makes me nauseous and can trigger a migraine, so my response to your response is: *standing ovation*

Well, I do have friends who smoke, admittedly -- it's just quantities of the stuff in public places that are really annoying!

I too have friends who smoke, but as much as I love them, they have to go outside to do that. Mostly because migraines suck.

Yep, same here. Too many migraines to show any tolerance towards smokers.

I always have to throw everything into the laundry room when I get home from an evening out and then go and wash my hair before going to bed, because I would be unable to sleep with smoky hair. And still, more often than not I wake up the next morning feeling with a raving headache.

I wish we'd have such a law here in Germany, but I cannot see that come within my lifetime. They still pay support money to tobacco farmers so those can stay in business. *sigh*

:D Yeah, we're having a similar ban here in NJ so I know what you mean (although, being underage, I don't have the actual experience of being in smoke-filled bars, but I still sympathize with you).
