snorkackcatcher: (Happy Birthday)
First of all, a Happy Birthday to the estimable [livejournal.com profile] ladybracknell! I'll see what I can do in the way of lyrics below. ;)

A quick query to anyone who cares to comment: the title of my story The Open Sea and the Sky (the 'first Atlantic broom flight' one) was meant to be a reference to the title of Francis Chichester's autobiography. Except I discovered today quite by accident that I'd misremembered it, and it's actually The Lonely Sea and the Sky. Worse, when I Googled the phrase I realised that it's a quote from a Masefield poem that even I'd seen before but hadn't recognised (see, I told you I know bugger all about poetry). 'Lonely' rather than 'Open' would actually work better for the title of my fic. Would it be hopelessly pretentious to change it now?

Lyrics: The last one was that old lament Oh My Darling, Clementine, which (according to Wikipedia, anyway) was written in 1884, probably by Percy Montrose, possibly by Barker Bradford, and may well have been based on an earlier 1863 song Down by the River Liv'd a Maiden by one H.S.Thompson. So now you know. Well, [livejournal.com profile] laverinth, [livejournal.com profile] msmoocow, [livejournal.com profile] golden_d, and [livejournal.com profile] lareinenoire certainly knew, anyway. :)

This time -- one from Lady B's favourite pop band. This song in particular because I've always liked it:

All I want is 20-20 vision
A total portrait with no omissions
All I want is a vision of you, oh-oh
(1970s)

(PS -- I nearly used #5 in your list, until I remembered (via [livejournal.com profile] audiography) that it was a cover version of a wildly obscure band called The Nerves, which I never knew before. :) BTW, I like #1 in the list too ...)
