Ye Olde Traditional Olympic Torch Relay Poste

The Olympic Torch passed by West Kensington Tube station this afternoon, which is only a short walk from where I live, so I went over to watch (along with quite a number of other people who had the same idea, of course). I haven't been following it on TV, so I hadn't realised it would actually be a small procession with floats from the sponsors and so on, the Flame itself was blink-and-you-miss-it! Anyway, here's the picspam traditional on these occasions:

Thank you for posting those pictures. Somehow, even through camera, computer and internet it's wonderful to see the Olympic fire being passed on. Such an ancient tradition.

Great picture of the torch!

It came quite close to me too, and I had every intention of going, but I was still exhausted from laryngitus and frantically making glass, so I didn't in the end. By all accounts there was a big crowd (it being Sunday afternoon) so not even sure if I'd have been able to see much.

So it's nice to see what it was actually like - I've not followed it on TV but all the clips I've seen focus on the torch, so probably even with that there wouldn't have been much of a sense of the sponsor float part of it.

One of the nice things about it passing by there was that it's just an ordinary street -- everyone was able to see things up close. I had thought of going to see it later on when it passed into St James Park near where I work, but then thought this would be better. :)

Ooh! You saw the torch! It was passing near by me too, but I was feeling too tired and sick to go and look at it. So thanks for the photos! I can live vicariously through you!

I love the sense of community this brings out. The closest I have come to the torch was watching my family watch it go by outside my hosiptal room as I was in labor with my eldest.

There was a bigger crowd there than I expected -- it's just an ordinary street -- but loads of people turned out to see it.
