Fic update

Thanks to everyone who commented on the April 1st post! Just to clarify, my original epic was in fact the opening chapter of a story arc genrally known as the, um, Draco Trilogy, posted some time ago by, oh, what's-her-name, Claire Cassandra? (Er, by which I mean, obviously, that it was ME who wrote it FIRST and she clearly HACKED into my COMPUTER before I could POST it and STOLE my WORK!!!!1111)

I wasn't sure if it would be so familiar that it was obvious, or whether it's actually become obscure now. :D (To be Fair and Balanced about it, the Trilogy's neither as awesome as its squee-ers say it is nor as dreadful as its detractors claim.)

Ahem. While I'm here, I actually do have a fic of sorts to post -- a response to shiiki's request on the timestamp meme, which I'll sort out tomorrow. The meme promise was for at least a drabble -- but given my usual verbosity and tendency to add random bits on, it somehow ended up as about 3.5K words. D'oh! (It's unbetaed and lighthearted to the point of near-fluffiness, I'm afraid -- in short, probably about the same standard as in my last post. D:)

Also, if anyone can do an instabeta for springtime_gen in a few days time, that would probably be most helpful ...

I could do beta (unless you actually need someone who can proof English grammar, that is...). Insta depends on its length ;). If it's Draco Trilogy-shaped, I want a few weeks ;).

Hopefully only about 3K words given the amont of time I have to finish it -- SPG not so important to be honest, I'll risk those, more 'does this work at all with no dodgy bits?'

Heh, I had no idea that was related to that Cassandra Claire saga. I only know what I do about that via hearsay, anyway.

Well, I only read Draco Dormiens translated to Spanish when I was eleven years old (about nine years ago. Clearly, I need a new hobby) and even then I didn't love it (though I do remember liking it) enough to continue. But, no, I didn't recognize it the few paragraphs I read this morning before commenting (I was rushing out).

Don't blame you. I wasn't in fandom for its main fame -- I read it when it was about three quarters of the way through the third story. I downloaded copies from FictionAlley before they were pulled. Given the controversy surrounding it I think a lot of people probably remember about it rather than remembering what it was about. :)

IIRC, the leather pants don't appear until about halfway through the second story, when Draco ends up on Charlie's dragon reserve borrowing clothes for reasons I'm now hazy about, but probably something to do with staying away from Hermione who's now in love with him after having been given a permanent Midsummer Night's Dream-style love potion by a revived Salazar Slytherin ... which actually does make sense in context. I'm sure you want to rush to read it now. :)

I didn't notice it. Like Nineveh, I was distracted by the lack of leather pants. So to speak.

As I said above, the leather pants don't appear until much later (pretty much a throwaway, as I recall).

Although that reminds me that apparently the front page headline in the German equivalent of the Sun (whatever that would be?) when Bayern Munchen played Manchester United in the 1999 Champions League final translated to "Tonight We're All Wearing Leather Pants!" Which is not a particularly happy image ...

I must admit I didn't recognise the chapter, but was confused since it definitely didn't read like anything else you'd written. ;) I read the first two parts of the Draco Trilogy years and years ago, but didn't find them particularly compelling, and the copious theft from Joss Whedon began to grate after a point.

I didn't notice the Buffy quotes as I'd never watched it -- I did spot a few from Blackadder and Wodehouse(!) though, which didn't bother me that much. The third part was actually quite a lot better than the other two IIRC (although I haven't re-read it, so it might not look too good if I did).

It gets better later on. :) The first story's basically crack, the second is a rip-off of various other stories (sometimes literally, that's what the trouble was about), but actually the (very long) third story had a pleasing sort of apocalyptic angst about it.
