Spent Christmas visiting my cousin, although with my aunt also there I was in a hotel in the next village. (Which was handy. Easier to set my own times for going over, convenient wireless access, and the first time I've ever slept in a four-poster bed.)

Anyway, the year in fic -- not that many stories this time due to the previously mentioned routine lethargy and gloom, although there were some longer fics among the ones posted. Many came under the heading of actually writing or finishing long-standing ideas.

The Four Laws of Golpalott [PG-13, 1,600 words, gen]. A Ravenclaw student explains to his housemate why the Potions textbook contains no mention of Golpalott's Fourth Law. Somewhat crackish, but it did involve inventing a Potions theory!

In The Bleak Midwinter [R (just about), 9,350 words, Ron/Hermione]. Hermione Granger had grown to dread the winter. The season seemed almost to have a grudge against her. And so as she and Ron flew from summer in Britain to winter in Australia to search for her parents, she had both old and new issues to resolve. A challenge fic for the Checkmated "winter" challenge -- hence the ship was prominent, although it added Hermione's search for her parents and her winter experiences over the seven books into the mix.

Repercussions [PG-13, 7,750 words, gen (a little one-sided Snape/Lily)]. Severus Snape has bad hygiene -- in the opinion of Sirius Black. who pointedly tells him so. Severus Snape has dirty blood -- in the opinion of Regulus Black, who unwittingly tells him so. One telling leads to the other -- and both have surprising repercussions once they all start school. RemixRedux entry -- a remix extending a rather fluffy fic in the light of new canon that gave it a darker tinge. And a rare chance to write Snape as lead character!

They Did What? [PG-13, 650 words, gen]. Avery attends a Death Eater meeting and discovers that the Order have inspired the Dark Lord's latest plan ... Crackish gift ficlet riffing off JKR's postcard fic.

Solving the Clues [PG-13, 8,550 words, gen (occasional Remus/Tonks references in passing)]. Kingsley Shacklebolt had never expected his habit of solving the Daily Prophet crosswords to uncover a security leak. But when the Potterwatch passwords started to appear in them as answers to clues, he had little choice but to investigate who was behind it ... An idea I finally got around to writing, actually scribbling the draft out on paper for once to while away boredom at a short-lived job placement (short-lived because ironically I got an actual job soon afterwards).

A Law of the Medes and Persians [PG-13, 30,600 words, gen + Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione]. Harry would have liked a little peace and quiet after the Battle of Hogwarts to decide what he wanted to do next (although rebuilding his relationship with Ginny was definitely high on the list). But any such hopes were dashed by unexpected threats to his godson and to Kingsley's position as Minister, and once again, he and his friends found themselves in a courtroom taking on an old enemy ... In four parts, the longest thing I've written since NTLJ. I'd done about a quarter of it last year, and finally got around to finishing it -- it was one of those stories that expand way beyond the original plan in order to cover matters implied by the setting, such as the ships and some of the post-war fallout. Harry POV but rather an ensemble cast.

Trick or Treat [PG-13, 500 words, Ron/Hermione]. Ron thinks Hermione is oddly enthusiastic about letting her children try a Muggle Halloween tradition. Fluffy request ficlet for the Checkmated Halloween exchange.

And one left over from last year's [livejournal.com profile] hp_holidaygen for which the reveal wasn't until early this year:

The Sleeper Awakes [PG-13, 10,300 words, gen]. "It's been coming on for a while," said Percy ... "But I had to find a way out and it's not so easy at the Ministry, they're imprisoning traitors all the time." (DH, ch30). This is Percy's journey to that point.

Hmm. I seem to be getting used to a two-screen display now -- the main 22" flat panel with the fic journal in Opera and the laptop screen on the side where this is displayed. :)
