First of all, a happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dizzy_chisel!

Since I usually do a lyrics quiz on posts like this ... well ha, for once I felt like a change. So here (gacked from [livejournal.com profile] such_heights) is the "In progress screenshot meme" -- i.e. take a screenshot of your WiP folder and post it, then comment as appropriate on the files shown.

As for the files ... hmm, this really showcases my tendency to procrastinate, doesn't it?

_Story Possibles List.doc -- exactly what it says on the tin. Reminders to self of possible plot bunnies.

A Law of the Medes and Persians.doc -- novella-length fic I'm currently plugging away at (about 15K words at the moment, will probably end up about 25K) set shortly after the last chapter of DH, in which the Trio and Ginny get themselves involved in a courtroom battle over the status of Teddy Lupin. Also featuring Andromeda, Umbridge, and Kingsley, among others. It wasn't meant to be novella-length, but it just seems to keep growing ...

Annus Horribilis.doc -- Barty Crouch Senior story of the year between his wife informing him that she has a fatal illness and him Obliviating Bertha Jorkins. Started ages ago, outline of scenes and about a third of the writing completed, just needs actually finishing.

Being For the Benefit of Mr Kite.doc -- Almost-but-not-entirely-crack piece in which the Trio and Ginny head to Las Vegas for a holiday in 2005 and get involved in wizarding poker ... Inspired by a Leaky Cauldron challenge, adapted for the [livejournal.com profile] omniocular Beatles Titles Challenge. (Not nearly as long as it looks from the file size -- there's an image of the original poster that gave Lennon the idea for the song posted in it as a reminder of things to work in.)

Perilous Knowledge.doc -- the Rita Skeeter-Merope Gaunt piece started for the very first [livejournal.com profile] omniocular challenge, worked on off and on but never finished. It is basically plotted out, although I had to adapt the plot quite considerably to take DH into account.

Remus and Luna story.doc -- for the [livejournal.com profile] omniocular Totally Not Badfic challenge. Watch this space ...

That Which Is Necessary.doc -- Rough notes for an angsty Snape story, now more DOA than WIP.

The Man of Destiny.doc -- a long time ago (before HBP came out) I found myself in a group offering feedback for a Harry/Hermione story (Harry Potter and Dumbledore's Feint, still one I have fond memories of). However, even back then I was saying that it was clearly Ron/Hermione in canon, and the only way you'd get Harry/Hermione would be if Ron was killed off ... This one was rough notes for such a story, which could still be done as an AU -- but probably won't be, because it would need to be at least novella-length. Even the bits from the first and last chapters I'd already written would need revision (as they feature Tonks and Snape, both alive).

The Privileged.doc -- At one point I had a like, totally original, yeah idea for a fic ... write about the Merope Gaunt-Tom Riddle Senior affair from the POV of Cecilia, no-one else will have thought of that! ... oh. Right. When a glut of such fics started to appear, this one got dumped -- rough plot and a few passages written. Still potentially workable, but a long way down the list.

The Seeds of Wizardry.doc -- another potentially long fic about wizarding genetics, among other things. More an outline than anything else, but still something I might get back to -- has potential, although somewhat on the dark side.

The Stag at Bay.doc -- Some time ago, [livejournal.com profile] lupinslittlesis said she would be a lot less annoyed by Tonks losing her morphing powers because of unrequited love if there was a fic in which James has trouble with the Animagus transformation because of pining for Lily ... I thought this was a great plotbunny, it just took ages to get a workable story idea for it and do an outline. Unfortunately, by then [livejournal.com profile] lupinslittlesis had hit her own pitch out of the park with a fun story called A Boy Thing, so this one never got written. Anyway, DH knocked something of a hole in it (along with about 27,632 other Marauder stories) by implying that the Prank came before Snape's Worst Memory.

To See My Nakedness.doc -- hmm, that was a Remus/Sirius-ish drabble I wrote (to see if I could) which I thought might be expandable to ficlet length. Never got around to it though.

Truth or Dare - The Slytherin Way.doc -- Not sure why I bother keeping this around. Of the three prompt draws for the first FAP Valentine's Day challenge, I managed to write two (Different Paths, "Madam Pomfrey studies with Walden Macnair", and Toujours Pur, "Mrs Black fancies Troy"). This was the third ("Daphne Greengrass is Stupified by Mr Ollivander") and I think it shows just how desperate I was that I considered using Truth or Dare as a basis for a story ...

There are other plotbunnies for which I have notes on paper or in my head, they just haven't been typed up yet. :)

Ooh, I'll look forward to the Remus and Luna one. I never finished my Totally Not Bad!fic piece either (in fact, I think I've only got a paragraph), because I found I kept straying into distinctly bad!fic territory (some would say I'm never far away from that anyway, lol).

These sound interesting! I'm a bit fascinated by the Totally Not Badfic dilemma, especially because a badfic plot involving Remus and Luna doesn't immediately spring to mind. (Thank goodness, I suppose!)

Really? Totally missed that. Need to go back and look. M.

Really? How strange. I have to go back and take a look. Sometimes I get the feeling that too much thought on this era is...well, not that productive. *sigh* M.
