A couple of recs

snorkackcatcherTwo recs over at Chamber of Secrets Forums (which I where I started out in active HP fandom, and so occasionally visit for nostalgia's sake).
First I should mention dink's wonderful How It All Began -- A Christmas Story, the first fic I Niffled at FictionAlley (nearly two years ago now, which unfortunately shows how long it's been since we had a new set of Nifflers). It's an extremely ingenious Potterverse exploration of the Father Christmas story, and still one of my favourite HP fanfics of all time.
Summary: This story will explain a few things about Christmas, hopefully in an original and convincing way. There are 24 chapters and each chapter will be set in December. The years for each chapter won't necessarily follow in chronological order. A few familiar names and faces from the Harry Potter series will pop up from time to time in cameo roles, but the main characters are my own inventions.
Secondly, when I checked I found that another old favourite, Inkwolf's Hogwarts Staff Meeting, had been updated with several post-DH chapters (Niffle here -- unfortunately, their 'subscribe to thread' email alerts seem to have stopped working).
Summary: [Cue opening music]
With the Hogwarts budget in the red and the school approaching bankruptcy, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore had a simple plan ... he ordered Ancient Runes teacher J.K.Rowling to write a series of books about an imaginary student, for sale to Muggles.
[Switch music to 'O Fortuna']
Little did they realize that he was triggering a series of events which would lead to lawsuits, death, donut shortages, war, alien invasion, nude veela yacht parties, global warming, world economic collapse, nuclear holocaust and alien invasion!
Rowling: What?!
Incidentally, if anyone would like to be a a Niffler, it strikes me that now would be a good time to mention it in case we can get the programme off the ground again. :)
