snorkackcatcherI promised, in the post-fic notes to the latest FictionAlley chapter of my epic (or at any rate long) Tonks story, to post links to the chapter summaries and cast of characters here - see below the cut. I've also posted a brief introduction, just in case the title Nymphadora Tonks and the Liquor of Jacmel means nothing to you!
Random Ego-Boosting Surprise
Typing "Nymphadora Tonks" into the Google search box today out of sheer curiosity to see what would come up, and finding the link to this story at Schnoogle on the first page (huh?) as result #10 ...
It's never plain sailing for a newly-qualified Auror, and especially not for Nymphadora Tonks. Her Metamorphmagus talents are a big career advantage. Her dark wizard relatives certainly aren't. Being thrown in at the deep end on her first case doesn't make things any easier, either. So when Tonks puts her shapeshifting skills to good use investigating the trade in a highly dangerous potion, while simultaneously trying to deal with her family's very "Black" past history, things quickly get complicated ... [Set during the first half of GoF, plot crosses paths with the books from time to time but mostly runs parallel.]
This story was begun in July 2004. It's intended to be consistent with Books 1-5 and any other information revealed by JKR. It may or may not survive HBP or future interviews and website postings relatively unscathed, so if you're reading this after July 16th 2005 please bear that in mind! If feasible, I'll attempt to edit in or finesse any new information that contradicts it, but if I can't I reserve the right to cough loudly and become mysteriously deaf until the subject is changed.
First posted on Chamber of Secrets starting September 2004, then on FictionAlley starting February 2005. Updates are posted to the CoS version first (currently several chapters ahead, so if you've only read the FA version don't click those links), but the FA version benefits from extra editing and revision, although there are no substantial plot changes.
Calendar note: I'm making the assumption that GoF begins in summer 1994 (based on the Deathday Party cake in CoS). The days of the week given in the FA version, however, are based on the GoF timeline where October 30th is a Friday, not the actual 1994.
