I try to get around it by sayin stuff like: "I'm really tired," said Albus. He certainly sounded sleepy. But I personally don't see what's so wrong with adverbs. I hate it when people use "say" all the time. One of the things I learnt in French composition was that there were so many verbs for speech that we really sould be using the same all the time.
