I'm sure I can't be the only one thinking this, but the most awesome way to do the Ten-to-Eleven regeneration episode would be to make it the Eight-to-Nine regeneration episode as well. In other words, to deal with the Time War and tie it to the return of at least some of the Time Lords. (Romana, Y/Y?) And you never know, it might even be possible ...
After all, Journey's End clearly set this up with the information that it is feasible to go back into the Time War, despite it being horribly dangerous -- even if Dalek Caan was driven mad, maybe a Time Lord can handle the stresses better and get away with, you know, having to regenerate because they'd absorbed too much yellow glowing vortex energy or something. (Again.) Funny things might happen in terms of resetting the timelines, but then there was a suggestion of setting that up too in The Next Doctor -- specifically the Doctor's puzzlement at the GiantRobot Cyberman stomping around 1851 London when he'd earlier had a line something like "1851? Yeah, nothing much happening".
It would mean getting Paul McGann on board to do timey-wimey crossover scenes, but hey, in what way would that not be a good thing? He's done plenty of audios, has said he'd be interested, and might well like to round things off with another filmed version. I doubt Christopher Eccleston would want to, but I'm sure the producers could kludge something for an Eight-to-Nine scene along the lines of the Six-to-Seven version, or just have Eight comatose and CGI in Eccleston's features from some stock shot.
Oh well. A lad can dream, right?
