So my mother rang up a little while ago to tell me "watch Junior Mastermind, there'll be someone on there answering questions on Harry Potter as their specialised subject". And indeed there was, a girl called Ayla (from California!) who proceeded to rattle off the answers with barely a pause and racked up the huge score of 18 points. The only one she passed on was the type of Grow Your-Own kit Harry got from the cracker in the first book. Naturally, she won comfortably despite struggling a bit on the General Knowledge. Dammit, is this girl Hermione's long-lost American cousin or something? :)

Just for the record, I did get them all right too, apart from the kit which I couldn't remember either(*). Although to be fair, for most of the questions she got served absolute sitters (e.g. the name of Sirius' house-elf, or Hagrid's brother, or the third school in the Triwizard Tournament, or the model of Harry's broomstick). I felt rather sorry for the other three contenders, who had to answer what seemed much tougher questions on the far more open-ended specialised subjects of History of the Space Shuttle, England Test Cricket from 2000, and The Dambusters. John Humphreys didn't make any concessions, firing off the questions at them just like he does with the adults. :)

(*) It's Grow-Your-Own-Warts, btw.
