Memory Lane
Aug. 13th, 2005 08:28 pmThe Chamber of Secrets Forums have many admirable qualities, but "not deleting threads without warning" isn't one of them. This can be a trifle annoying when the threads are stories that have been posted there (a couple of mine have vanished into the ether, which I didn't realise until I checked the links in my signature).
Those two are also posted at FictionAlley, so no great harm done there. However, when I checked back, I was rather sad to note that the threads for the "Fan-Fiction Contest" that CoS ran in February 2004 had also disappeared. My entry for that was the first fanfic I ever wrote (in fact, the first story of any kind I'd written since I was at school).
Fortunately, I'd saved a copy to my computer, so since I'm feeling retro it's archived here below the cut. It's now thoroughly noncanon, reads passably but should probably be labelled "not bad for a first try". Still, it did come second, and it remains (ETA: until recently) the only time I've ever tried to write from Harry's POV. It was a "challenge" contest in which entries had to meet certain criteria that the mods dreamed up in a brainstorming session - rules noted at the top if anyone is interested. (Obviously, I'm hoping one or two people will be. :) But I'm quite fond of it anyway.)
